Howie serves as Metro Transit’s Senior Manager of Public Relations and leads a team of five staff focused on bus, light rail, commuter rail, and police communications. He has previously worked in public relations for the Saint Paul (Minn.) Police Department and as a journalist for the Star Tribune covering Crime and Justice issues. He has directed communications during active shooter situations, transit-related incidents, and, most recently, served as a liaison for Metro Transit in the multi-jurisdictional Operation Safety Net, formed in the aftermath of the murder of George Floyd in the city of Minneapolis. In addition to leading Metro Transit’s Communications and Media Relations team, one of Howie’s primary areas of focus is crisis communications for the agency.
